About S&T
We use a purpose-built platform called BuilderTrend to ensure transparent and seamless communication and documentation with each client.
We are Trey Shelton and Joseph Teipel - founders and owners of S&T Construction. Growing up in Buena Vista, Joseph and Trey have known each other their entire lives and have a long history of playing and working together and supporting each other’s lives. They started S&T Construction in January of 2021 with a vision to create a building company that values communication and integrity throughout the entire process of each project and beyond while culminating in high quality, beautiful work.
While each of us has a long background in the construction, project management, logistics planning, and owner’s rep worlds, the idea to start S&T spurred from the desire to approach construction from a place of communication, openness, and relationship - with our clients and with our sub-contractors.
Our values are simple, yet powerful:
Communication - the single most important element of an efficient and quality construction project is communication. We commit to proactively communicating with our client, with our subs, and with each other from the moment we first dive into a project.
Integrity - we are not perfect, nor are our projects perfect. There, we said it! To us, integrity is not about perfection, it is about honoring what is right. We commit to act with integrity, honesty, and openness from day one.

Joseph Teipel
Joseph was born and raised here in BV by a Spanish teacher mum and a cabinet maker dad. Joseph worked in his dad’s cabinet shop from the age of 10, and, in high school and college jumped into framing and landscaping.
Since graduating from the University of Denver in 2007, Joseph has worked with Habitat for Humanity, founded and ran a community development nonprofit, and traveled extensively.
Joseph brings not just construction experience to S&T, but also an in-depth understanding of development, project management & financing, and planning. Having served as Planning Director for the Town of Buena Vista, he has the ability to navigate code and think creatively about project concepts large and small.
Joseph loves hiking, camping with his family, and ripping the mountain bike trails when time allows!

Trey Shelton
Trey moved to BV at 3 years old from the western slope of Colorado and grew up on various guest and working ranches around the area. From a young age, Trey was helping with a variety of building and management projects including repairing, remodeling, working with livestock, and the multitude of skills required for ranch life.
After graduating high school as a homeschooler, Trey worked for more than a decade as a river guide, kayak, and ski instructor with construction and forestry jobs in between seasons. With a degree in human and environmental geography, he has worked managing programs in the outdoor leadership and adventure travel fields, teaching and managing regenerative agricultural training locally and overseas, served on the Buena Vista planning and zoning commission, and started multiple thriving businesses.
Along with practical building experience, Trey brings people, project, and planning skills to S&T and thoroughly enjoys the process of working with clients to create an enjoyable, communicative, and transparent experience throughout their entire project.
In his spare time, Trey enjoys being with his wife, young daughter and son, traveling, biking, and skiing in the mountains, and spending time on the river.
